OK the title is a little bit misleading because this could work equally well not just anywhere else in The Netherlands but also anywhere else in the world.

As you’ve been reading my blog (I hope you find it interesting!!) you may have noticed that I have spoken about some websites that I have created a.k.a. online marketing. My ideal outcome is to live completely off this income by the time I emigrate or, failing that, for it to make up at least half of my income so that I don’t need to work full-time. Who wants to work 40 hours a week for someone else anyway?

I know from speaking to friends that making money online is misunderstood by most and seen as some kind of scam. Let me allay your fears and tell you that there are hundreds of thousands of people, if not millions, making money legitimately online. Here are some of the basic premises that make selling online preferable to selling in the real world:

• The basics of marketing i.e. selling are the same whether online or offline.
• You make money by getting paid commissions for helping to sell the products of others. This is commonly referred to as being an “affiliate”.
• Commissions in the real world are about 10 to 20 percent. Commissions in the online world are often 50 to 75 percent.
• The reason for this is that some of the best money is in “virtual” products such as electronic pdf books rather than physical books. Every extra affiliate sale costs the publisher nothing which is why he is willing to give such high percentage commissions to the affiliate.
• The only skill you need is to know how to type on a keyboard. Do not think you need to be a Pullitzer/Booker Prize winning author because you don’t.
• You don’t need to know how to actively sell. In fact, people will trust you more if you don’t do this.
• The easiest place to start is to write a blog about a passion of yours. The more passionate you are about something the easier it is to write about it.
