Learning Dutch

Another thing that I am intent on doing is learning the language. Many people emigrate to Amsterdam and make zero effort to learn because everyone already knows English!

I’m sorry, but that is a lazy attitude IMO. The only way to truly understand the Dutch culture is to know at least a little of the language.

Learning languages has never been by forte. Even though I know a little French and Spanish, I still find it hard and laborious to learn a language.

Anyway, I’ve been on this forum lately and discovered a lot of useful information. One thing that I am going to try is the L-R method which is a way of assimilating a language in as short a time as possible. However, I need 2 complete days without distractions to achieve this. I also need some bilingual texts – I have some on computer but I’m not so sure if looking at a screen for 20 or 30 hours straight is going to be easy! I prefer a real book.

I have already read some basic Dutch grammar but I prefer not to learn too much this way as I believe it could actually hinder my future learning. I prefer for my language use to be natural rather than “constructed” in my head which I believe is a big obstacle to getting much better at a language.

Hi there buddy! Seeing that I’ve put in a bit of time in the past hour perusing through your posts, I figured I might drop a quick comment in your blog guestbook to say hey. I am constantly blown away at the high quality of blog writing that I can come across online by smacking the “I’m Feeling Lucky” option on Google! That’s just about everything from my end, hope you have a great 2nd half of 2010!

I always have a tendency to think a bit harder about all sorts of stuff soon after I read somebody new’s weblog and their remarks. I’m really thankful for the blog as well as how it’s changed the web in to a substantial collection of distributed thinkings. I ended up on here just after finishing up some stuff for work on Yahoo and somehow browsed on to your site. I’m happy that I stuck around and I am going to be sure to add this site to my news reader in order to read what you post in the future. Cheers!
